Considering Personal Training? Two Approaches to Keep You On Track

Personal Training & Group Fitness Options

Starting (or restarting) a fitness routine can feel overwhelming—but it doesn’t have to.

My goal is to create a space where movement feels approachable, supportive, and something you actually look forward to. Whether you prefer personalized attention or the energy of working out with others, I offer both 1:1 personal training and group fitness options to help you move in a way that works for you.

No matter where you’re starting from, you are welcome here.

1:1 Personal Training — Support Designed Around You

If you’ve ever wanted workouts that feel realistic for your schedule, goals, and lifestyle, one-on-one training may be a great fit.

These sessions are fully personalized and designed to help you feel confident, supported, and successful—without the pressure to be perfect.

Together, we can focus on things like:
• Building strength and confidence
• Creating healthy habits that last
• Improving mobility and flexibility
• Returning to movement after pregnancy or time away
• Increasing energy and feeling stronger in everyday life

You don’t need to already be “fit” to start. You just need a place to begin.

Group Fitness — Move Together, Feel Supported

There’s something special about moving alongside other people.

Group sessions bring encouragement, connection, and motivation while still making space for all experience levels. You can show up exactly as you are and move at your own pace.

Group classes are great if you enjoy:
• Positive energy and community
• Accountability and consistency
• Trying something new in a supportive environment
• Making movement feel more fun

Options may include:
• Private group training
• Small group fitness sessions
• Community classes
• Specialty offerings, including mom and baby or postpartum-focused classes

My Philosophy

I believe movement isn’t about punishment or chasing perfection—it’s about feeling strong, capable, energized, and connected to yourself.

My classes and training sessions are designed to meet you where you are and help you build a routine that supports your life—not adds stress to it.

Root, Rise, & Bloom: Growing Your Seeds of Intention

Over the past several months I have taught Shanti Mom Prenatal Yoga classes at NKO Yoga. It’s wonder to see new moms taking time for themselves and finding ways to connect with their baby. Below is part of the newsletter which I wrote for the April NKO Yoga Studio newsletter.

Last month we wrote about planting seeds of intention. So how are your seeds doing? Have they grown roots yet or are they still germinating? This season of your life—pregnancy, transformation, expansion—naturally invites both. Some intentions take hold quickly, anchoring you with clarity and purpose. Others linger just beneath the surface, quietly gathering energy until the moment is right. Both rhythms are valid. Both are part of the unfolding.

Your yoga practice is also unfolding and growing in a different direction.  Whether you have practiced before your pregnancy or if you just started as a suggestion from your doctor or midwife, yoga is an opportunity to grow your mind, your body and your spirit. Yoga class is a great way to grow your connection to new moms also. Take time to introduce yourself to other moms in the class; you may make a lifelong friendship.

As you move through your practice this month, notice what feels steady and what still feels tender. Rooting doesn’t always look like certainty; sometimes it’s simply the willingness to pause, breathe, and listen. When you settle into a grounding pose or place your hands on your growing belly, you’re offering those intentions the nourishment they need: presence, patience, and compassion. You’re also growing the connection between you and your baby.

And then there’s the rising. As your body changes, your awareness shifts too. You may find new intentions sprouting—desires for deeper rest, more connection, or a gentler pace. You may notice your mothering instincts blooming and you may become more emotional. Let them rise without judgment. Growth is rarely linear, especially during pregnancy. Some days you’ll feel strong and expansive; other days you’ll feel quiet and inward. Both are expressions of blooming.

This month, I invite you to revisit the intentions you planted at the start of your journey. Which ones feel alive? Which ones need more space? Which ones are ready to be released? Trust that your inner garden knows exactly what to cultivate. You are growing a human, yes—but you are also growing yourself.

Record Your Growth

While you will always remember your pregnancy experience, here are some ways to preserve this journey for yourself, your family and your baby to see in the future.

Journaling: buy yourself a journal and write to your baby.  Let them know how you’re feeling, how much they are growing each day/week/month until the day they arrive!  Include poems, songs, or quotes that you connect with during this time of your life.

Vision Board: create a vision of your expectations of motherhood. Take monthly photos of yourself, foods you crave, places you’ve visited, the birthing room or the baby’s room. Whatever you feel you should share with your baby or those moments you want to cherish later. Optional: take photos of yourself from a side profile to watch your belly grow!

Ways to Uplift Yourself & Your Routine

A successful year isn’t built on perfection—it’s built on presence. Here are a few soulful strategies to elevate your days:

  • Start with breath. One minute of intentional breathing can shift your entire mindset. Try it before meetings, workouts, or tough conversations and confrontations. Taking that small moment to breathe can extinguish fiery conflicts.
  • Schedule joy. Add something playful or nourishing to your calendar each week—whether it’s a dance break, a walk with a friend, or a class that lights you up. Maybe start a new hobby you always wanted to try; it’s never too late!
  • Move with meaning. Choose movement that feels good, not punishing. Let your body be a source of celebration, not critique. We usually start new workout routines as part of our New Year’s resolutions. Start where you are without comparison to others in the gym because at some point in the past they were at the very same starting point. Give yourself time to adjust to your new routine and forgive yourself if you miss a workout.
  • Curate your inputs. Surround yourself with voices, music, and media that uplift and inspire. Your energy is sacred—protect it. Create your own sphere of peace around you and take it with you always. You are in control of your inner peace.
  • Celebrate small wins. Progress isn’t always loud. Honor the quiet victories: showing up, resting when needed, speaking kindly to yourself. Small steps are the beginnings of great journeys.

Let’s Rise Together

This year, let’s redefine success—not as hustle, but as harmony. Not as doing more, but as being more present. I’m here to support you with classes that challenge, comfort, and connect. Come as you are, and let’s grow together.

My class schedule is posted here or reach out directly for updates, private sessions, group sound baths or collaborations. Let’s make this year one of movement, meaning, and magic.

Releasing Expectations: Discover Inner Freedom by Letting Go

From NKO Yoga’s July Newsletter

Pregnancy is often painted as a time of glowing joy—but beneath the surface, many expectant mothers carry a quiet weight: the pressure to do everything “right.” From birth plans to body image, from unsolicited advice to internalized ideals, the journey can feel like a tightrope walk between control and surrender.

Prenatal yoga offers a sacred space to soften those edges. On the mat, we learn to breathe through discomfort, to meet ourselves where we are, and to release the grip of perfection. Letting go isn’t giving up—it’s making room. Room for intuition. Room for trust. Room for the messy, miraculous unfolding of motherhood.
This month, we explore ways to practice yoga that can help us shed expectations and find freedom in simply being. By releasing expectations of the ideal, you come closer to your truth and to your true self.  Don’t be afraid. Allow this path of life to unfold a new part of you.  Be open to release other parts of your life which are no longer a priority, and remember it’s ok to change.

Practice: Breath of Surrender (3-Minute Letting Go Ritual)

Find a comfortable seat or lie on your side with support. Close your eyes and bring one hand to your heart, the other to your belly.
Inhale slowly through your nose for a count of 4, feeling your belly rise.
Exhale gently through your mouth for a count of 6, imagining tension melting away.
With each exhale, silently repeat: “I release what I cannot control.”
Continue for 3–5 rounds, or as long as it feels nourishing. Let your breath be your anchor, your reminder that you are already enough.

Journaling Prompt:

Take a few quiet moments to reflect on the following:

“What expectations am I holding onto that no longer serve me? What would it feel like to let them go?”
You might write a letter to yourself, or simply list the things you’re ready to release. There’s no right way—just your truth, unfolding.

Warming Up To Winter

Before the holidays began this week, on Sunday I observed the start of the Winter season by completing a Yoga mala (108 sun salutations). Even though it was challenging at times I felt a better connection with myself and my practice. Starting the day with a few rounds of sun salutations is a great way to greet the morning and start your day. Start a few days a week if your schedule is busy either in the morning or at a lunch break. Build up to the 108 sun salutations. Perhaps you can try it once a month to see how far you can go. Then progress slowly and you’ll be ready to try a Yoga mala by the next season. Make it one of your goals for 2025!

Candlelight Winter Solstice Sound Bath and Meditation

The winter solstice is a celebration of the Sun’s return. While it is the shortest day and the longest night of the year, each day after the winter solstice the sun is visible and the days grow a little longer. Then we welcome its return in spring. The lack of the sun’s energy is felt especially at night and in the past and out of necessity bonfires were lit for warmth and to illuminate the surrounding darkness. Without the sun, without warmth, without light, life will not prosper.  The same applies to each of us individually. We each have a light within ourselves; some call it our lifeforce, spirit, intuition or prana. Sometimes this light becomes dim or is stamped out by life’s events, but always remember it is never completely gone. Tonight I lead a meditation and sound bath with the purpose of guiding others toward reclaiming their inner light and how they could rekindle it, protect it, allow it to illuminate within and shine as bright as the sun.

Social Media and Teens: Support “The Luddite Club” Documentary on Kickstarter

Are you concerned with the abuse of social media and its effect on kids and teens, Are you passionate about preserving the stories of those who resist the relentless march of technology? If so, “The Luddite Club” highlights this very topic and needs your support! This compelling project, now live on Kickstarter, delves into the lives of New York City teens who created the Luddite Club. Luddites are individuals who choose to live without the conveniences of modern technology.

About the Documentary

“The Luddite Club” is more than just a film; it’s a journey into a world where teens prioritize human connection, craftsmanship, and simplicity over digital distractions. This documentary is not completely against social media, just the abuse of it and how it has changed the lives of teens and their social interactions.

Why This Project Matters

In an age where technology permeates every aspect of our lives, “The Luddite Club” offers a refreshing perspective. It challenges us to reflect on our own relationship with technology and consider the benefits of a more mindful, less tech-dependent lifestyle. This documentary is not just for those who identify as Luddites but for anyone curious about the impact of technology on society and the possibilities of living differently.

How You Can Help

Fall Equinox: Yoga, Hiking and Yoga Mala

This weekend focused on change. Getting rid of worn out habitual behaviors to make way for new experiences. Being open and willing to explore beneficial opportunities is the theme for this autumn equinox. In addition to teaching more yoga and fitness classes, I hosted my first yoga hike and sound bath on Saturday September 21. We started at the trail head and by pulled a rock from a bag that I brought with me which represented something to get rid of. While holding the rock, hold the thought/habit/mindset/grief/etc. that you are ready to release. As we walked along the trail the rock was released or dropped whenever it seemed right.

We approached the area of the sound bath and completed some restorative yoga poses, then I asked participants to think about something they want to work toward, to bring balance in their life or just to focus on during the coming months. A deck of oracle cards were spread out on a blanket. The card pulled from the deck would be their focus during the sound bath. Glass beads were offered and taken as a representation of what to take away from today’s experience and to use it when they lose sight of their intention.

Overall the intent of the day was achieved with some participants asking when the next yoga hike will be scheduled!

After teaching yoga in the park, which will sadly end next week because of the seasonal change, I completed another yoga mala to observe the equinox. See Yoga Mala – 108 Surya Namaskar for details. Each time I complete a yoga mala, I see and feel how much I have progressed in my own practice. I was able to keep a similar pace as the instructors which I couldn’t do the last two times I completed a yoga mala. Teaching yoga can sometimes interfere with an instructor’s personal asana practice so when I have the opportunity to take a class or workshop I will and I’m always glad I did. Taking more classes and workshops with other teachers and studios is another goal for me in the coming months.

Running for a cause

How often do you walk or run?

It started out with walking a few days a week. Early mornings in the fall are the best time to gently wake up the body starting with a walk then adding jogging here and there. A facebook post about a race pushed me to register for my first 5k and I got hooked! Now I’m adding more days of walking and running and searching for my next race event.
